The curtain will go up on the 2016 RTE All Ireland Drama festival tonight when Kilmeen Drama Group open proceedings with their production of Run For Your Wife by Ray Cooney. For the past number of weeks the nine qualifying groups have been putting the final touches to their productions and audiences can expect the best of what amateur drama has to offer. Indeed the festival has a International feel this year, with only three of the nine plays written by Irish playwrights. Jim Nolan and Tom Murphy are represented and it is fitting that The Loves Of Cass Maguire by the late Brian Friel features this year. American writers include Neil Simon and David Mamet, while English writers are also represented in the form of Ray Cooney, Richard Bean, Polly Teale and Harold Pinter.
ADA would like to take this opportunity to wish the nine groups, the audiences and the festival committee, under the direction of Joe Mc Carrick a wonderful nine nights of theatre. We also wish the very best to Padraic Mc Intyre who adjudicates the final this year.
