The curtain has come down on the 2016 All Ireland Confined Drama Final, which was this year hosted by Castleblaney Drama Festival at The Iontas Theatre and Arts Centre. Audiences were treated to nine nights of theatre that challenged, probed and entertained. Iontas is so well appointed in its facilities for both groups and audiences and no doubt this added to the enjoyment of what is an eagerly awaited and contested final.

This year the main honours went to Compantis Lir with their production of Proof by David Auburn. They also won the awards for Best Director (Dermot Hession), Best Actress, (Ruth O’Driscoll) Best Supporting Actor (Vincent Moran) and Best Presentation. Galway was again represented with DADS, Dunmore taking second place with their production of The Gigli Concert by Tom Murphy. They also won Best Actor (Ollie Turner) and Best Lighting (Kieran Dowling and John Mulligan). Third place went to Holycross/Ballycahill Drama Group with The Thrill Of Love by Amanda Whittington with the award for Best Supporting Actress going to Jacqui Lacey.

ADA sends our congratulations to all the awards winners and nominees, Castleblaney Drama festival and our colleague Anna Walker who had the honour of adjudicating this prestigious final.
Next year, The All Ireland Confined Drama Final will be hosted by The Western Drama Festival in Tubbercurry. It will be adjudicated by ADA member, Imelda Mc Donagh.
